Mayor & Council
Andy Arnold is a LaFayette High School graduate and is a life-long resident of Walker County. A city resident for more than 35 years, he served on the city council from 2002-2013 and was elected Mayor in 2014. He retired teaching and coaching after a 30 year career at LaFayette High School. He is married to his wife of over 36 years, Teresa. They have three sons, Cameron (wife Rachel), Caleb (wife Chloé) and Carson. Andy and Teresa are active members of First Baptist Church of LaFayette.
Council Member Ward 1
Beacher Garmany was raised in Rock Spring and graduated from LaFayette High School in 1960. He is a longtime resident of LaFayette. Beacher, along with his wife, JoAnne Garmany, moved to the city in 1975. The couple married in 1966. He and JoAnne have one daughter, Rechelle Garmany Adkins who currently resides in Augusta, GA. Beacher has over 37 years business experience as he owned Garmany Motors-GMC here in LaFayette from 1970-84, and served as a manufacturer’s representative from 1984-2007 when he retired. Beacher attends 1st Baptist Church of LaFayette, where has been a member since 1976. Beacher currently serves on the budget committee.
Council Member Ward 2
Councilman Anthony Underwood represents the 4th generation of his family to live within Ward 2. Anthony grew up on 2 dairy farms in town, and at age 14 was the youngest employee for Mayfield, where he rode his 3 speed bike to stores around town to pull milk. Anthony graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Polytech, where he also played baseball—and participated in the NAIA World Series. He currently works at Roper Corporation as a Sr AME.
Anthony married his wife, Melanie, in 1994. Together they have two grown children, Brady (wife Krista) and Haley, and are members at Second Baptist Church.
In his free time he enjoys golfing at the City Golf Course, umpiring little league baseball, and playing piano for Ridgeview Baptist Church in honor of his mother.
Council Member Ward 3
A lifelong resident of LaFayette, Mr. Tim Rayburn grew up on Gilbert Lane, in the very same Ward from which he was elected. A full-time electrician, Tim also pastors Trinity Tabernacle. Prior to being elected, Tim has served his community in many ways to include being heavily involved in the LHS Football Booster Program, and volunteering with the Honeybee Festival. He is supported by wife Ginny, and his three children, Landon, Laney and Laik.
Council Member Ward 4
Chris Davis is a lifelong resident of LaFayette. He is currently serving his 4th term in office, and is our current Mayor Pro Tem. A realtor by day, from November to April, Chris spends an equal amount of time as Head Coach for the LaFayette Youth Wrestling program, and as Assistant Coach for the High School wrestling program.
He serves as the council representative on the Downtown Development Authority Board and helped found the LaFayette High School Junior Council where he continues to lead. Chris is heavily involved in the city's revitalization efforts.
Council Member At-Large
Wayne Swanson was born in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1951. He moved to LaFayette later that year and graduated from LaFayette High School in 1970. In 1972 he was hired by the City of LaFayette as manager of the LaFayette Golf Course. He left the golf course in 1986 to open his own business. He has served on the council since 1997 and currently serves on the budget committee. He is employed at Five Star Food Service in LaFayette as the company’s Catering Manager.
